Young Adult Ministries

Young Adult Ministries is a ministry of the Church. It is not an organization or social club, but simply a gathering of the faithful who share the same ages and common interest. It is a spiritual ministry based on the theological beliefs of the Orthodox Church.

There are four main tenets of the Young Adult Ministries; Worship, Fellowship, Service and Witness. As Orthodox Christians, our worship is the living expression of God’s revelation through Holy Tradition and Scripture. Our fellowship is the way we integrate our faith with daily life. Our service is how we live our faith, by loving and serving our neighbor, and as we live our lives in faith, we become living witnesses of Christ to the world.

As Young Adult Ministries grow, we hope to sustain junior ministries such as the College Ministries (OCF), Volunteer Ministries (soup kitchen and food drives), Young Family Ministries and Athletic Ministries among other ministries according to need.

Under the umbrella of Young Adult Ministries is the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) www.ocf.net

OCF is a ministry opened to all college students by which they can come together for fellowship, prayer, and service. It is a way to rest yourself from your schoolwork so that you can give your soul some nourishment. Because college is such a big challenge, OCF offers a solid group of brothers and sisters in Christ who can stand by you during hard times and offer you family comfort when you are far from home.

The mission of OCF is to support fellowships on college campuses, whose members experience and witness to the Orthodox Christian Church through community life, prayer, service to others and study of the Faith (Acts 2:42). Furthermore, OCF will work to nurture and strengthen love for Jesus Christ and His Church in its fullness at this most critical juncture of human life through:

  • Communication between OCF's and with the larger Orthodox community
  • Development of resources for local OCF's
  • National endeavors such as College Conference, Real Break, website and a national newsletter

Houston is the site of several universities and colleges. Students are encouraged to attend the Divine Liturgies at the Cathedral awhile they are in Houston, and parents of college students in the area are encouraged to contact the Cathedral so that our priests are aware of their presence.

We strongly recommend getting involved in Young Adult Ministries and OCF and welcome all with open arms and Christian love. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral currently serves the needs of students at Rice University and University of Houston for more information please visit us at www.yamhouston.org.
